Steps for a Successful Job Interview

The big day is here! You've filled out multiple applications and submitted resume after resume. Finally, the company wants to interview you! Don't stress! Here are some simple tips to help you impress any future employer during an interview!

  • Research: Make yourself familiar with the company and what type of business they are. Look at their website. Make sure you know where they are located and the directions to get there.

  • Attire: Anything you would wear to mow the lawn or for a night on the town should be left in your closet. Avoid excessive jewelry and perfume or cologne. Leave your cell phone and alarm wristwatch at home!

  • Etiquette: Don't forget to bring extra copies of your resume to the interview. Arriving at your interview 10-15 minutes early and introducing yourself to the receptionist could already leave a positive, lasting impression with the employer. During the interview be sure to sit up straight, make eye contact, and do not chew gum. Once the interview is complete, thank your interviewers for their time, and ask for a business card.

  • Questions: Before the interview, think of 2-5 questions you may have for the employer. Be prepared for the interviewer to ask you what you already know about the position or industry. When asked a question, be sure to think it through. If you answer too quickly, you may begin to ramble and forget what the question was in the first place.

During any interview, remember: Stay calm, relax and keep in mind they chose to interview you! Something about your resume or application caught their eye. Now is the time to impress! Good luck!
